A collective of MA Sound Arts graduates have a show on this week in Clerkenwell at the Arbeit Gallery.
I went along on Saturday. Obviously, a private view with a room full of chatter was not the most appropriate sonic setting, but the overall work and show concept was very good.
Individuals works were all interesting and stimulating, but what struck me as most successful was the overall effect of 10 sound pieces in a smallish gallery that did not damage the work of their neighbors. A great example of working for the good of the whole rather than shoe-horning in individual works despite their volume/frequency demands.
Of course, the paradox that quiet works seem to demand more attention was at play there and time spent with the works was rewarding and stimulating.
